Agribusiness
Australian agriculture plays a very important role in our economy.  Government in Australia does not appear to place as much emphasis on agriculture as other countries in the world do e.g. the UK and America.

Food security in recent times has become a controversial topic with foreign investors acquiring agricultural land and businesses in Australia.  It is one thing for a government to fail to subsidise the agricultural industry, but it is a completely different proposition for a government to allow foreign interests to acquire Australian agricultural land and ultimately the means of food production. Energy and resource companies regularly compete for the right to prospect and to drill on high quality agricultural land.  Water and bio security issues are paramount, skills shortages prevail, government threatened to tax backpacker income at an unreasonable rate and government enquiries can lead to new and more complex regulations.
